Slaves to the law

Here are two ancient Latin proverbs which echo Islamic wisdom on God’s laws for humanity, and the idolising of selfish desires.

Legum servi sumus ut liberi esse possimus
“We are slaves to the law so that we may be able to be free.”

Nemo liber est qui corpori servit
“No man is free who is a slave to the flesh”
