Are Some Counter-Terrorism Policies Causing Islamophobia? My Lecture at Surrey University

Below is the video of the lecture I presented on ‘Islamophobia & Counter-Terrorism’ at the University of Surrey, on Friday 9th December 2016. The event was organised by the University of Surrey Student Union, Islamic Society.

In this lecture I discuss the important issues relating to Britain’s counterterrorism policies. Particularly, I investigate whether some aspects of UK counter-terror policies, go beyond the intention of preventing terrorism, and instead are being used to lead a ideological campaign against aspects of Islam deemed incompatible with Secular Liberal beliefs. I ask the question, citing statistics and reports, whether this approach has contributed to, tacitly permitted, if not promoted, the growth of islamophobia and a sense of hostility felt by many Muslims.
